About Jim Mangino

Jim playing bass

My passion (& lessons) for music started at the age of 7yrs. old. I'd see Glenn Campbell play and knew I wanted to do that. Then Roy Clark...Oh Man! Can't forget The Rolling Stones, Grand Funk Railroad and the Who. That was it!

By the time I was 11 I was enrolled at the Hartford Conservatory of Music. There I studied guitar with Bob Shaw... Probably the most influential in my playing style and ability. Then Lee Callahan on piano. Jazz became my thing. By the time I turned 13 I started teaching and playing professionally. Then came low brass and bass. Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra...It all became relevant to what I wanted to do.

Then college... Lincoln College who introduced me to Bill Barker who shared his knowledge of Jazz Guitar with me, then continuing to Roosevelt University and the Chicago Musical College. All the while I continued teaching and jobbing. I've played much of the Mid West including the Jazz Showcase in Chicago and Navy Pier, many large state festivals including opening acts for Brian White and Martina McBride.

I'll play & teach any style of music... Rock, Blues, Metal, Jazz, Classical... What ever. I am located in Central Florida, Brandon, Tampa Bay, Lakeland, Orlando and other surrounding areas. It can be inspiring to see your audiences faces and reactions to the music or the show. "Don't Limit Yourself" is key to what and how I learned and key to what and how I teach.
